Today, August 21, we proudly celebrate National Senior Citizens Day, a time to honor the achievements, wisdom, and contributions of older adults across our nation. First established by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, this day reminds us to show appreciation for the dedication and service seniors have given throughout their lives. With over 47 million seniors in the U.S.—and that number expected to nearly double by 2060—it is clear how much they continue to shape our communities and families.
At Erwin Health Care Center, we see every day the wealth of knowledge, experience, and resilience our residents bring. They are pioneers who have witnessed incredible changes in science, technology, medicine, and civil rights, often contributing to progress that benefits us all.
National Senior Citizens Day is also a reminder to spend time with the seniors in our lives, offering support and letting them know how deeply they are valued. Whether it’s a visit, a smile, or simply listening to their stories, each act of kindness makes a difference. From all of us at Erwin Health Care Center—thank you for your strength, service, and enduring legacy.
